liquid courage

I know you have them, in fact you probably have them right there on that computer. I'm talking about those soup recipes that helped you through multiple weeks of clear and creamy liquids.

I've never made soup before unless you count - open can, add water, stir. But I am ready to chop, boil, and puree, I just need to your recipes. I thought about just using recipes off the web but I don't want to spend all that time in preparation to only be disappointed in the end.

I'm trusting you my blog buddies - send me in the right direction!

  1. Hey you, good idea. I made the usual soups- black bean (thinner consistency for post surgery eating, just use more chicken stock), roasted squash soup (I made my plain and then flavoured each individual serving, one day I'd do curry, the next it would be nutmeg and all spice, the day after that it would be cumin, etc).

    But here's my two best suggestions:

    Minted Pea soup- just boil up some chicken or veggie stock, add a bag of peas and let boil for 1-2 minutes (don't go crazy, you want the peas al dente). Cool down. Add fresh mint. Puree. Add more chicken stock as needed and package in tupperware. Deelish, low cal and really refreshing.

    My other fave: get a protein powder like nectar iced tea or lemonade. (iced tea is my fave). Go to the dollar store and get some popsicle kits. Whip up your protein powder, pour, freeze and viola! You have a treat and protein laden meal all in one. 2 pops is about 60 calories, 22 g's of protein. Which is not bad, not bad at all!

    I basically lived off this protein pops, btw.

  3. wow the protein pops are such a good idea. I'm going to try this soon.

    soup wise- I didn't do much homemade stuff but I only had to do mushies 3-5 days at a time. Campbell's has this awesome new soup that is in the broth section, on the shelves, in a square container like broth. There are 5 diff flavors of wonderful soup that they just puree! good quickie!

  4. Hey there! I was SO SICK of soup I thought I would die, and I didn't have to eat it that long at all!

    I sent my hubby to the Japanese restaurant over near Crossroads- Kabuki- and he bought me some of their clear broth soup. You know, the kind that has a random mushroom or green onion per serving. YUM! Dee-lish.
